Trump Restricts Nvidia’s Advanced Blackwell Chips to U.S. Companies, Excluding China
President TRUMP has declared that Nvidia's most advanced Blackwell AI chips will be reserved exclusively for U.S. companies, with sales to China and other nations prohibited. The policy, announced during a CBS '60 Minutes' interview and reiterated aboard Air Force One, marks a significant escalation in semiconductor export controls.
Nvidia shares ROSE 1.4% to $205.31 in premarket trading following the announcement. While less advanced chips remain available for export, the restrictions on Blackwell units may extend beyond China—despite Nvidia's recent commitment to supply South Korea with 260,000 units.
CEO Jensen Huang confirmed the company hasn't sought U.S. export licenses for China, noting Beijing's opposition to Nvidia's operations there. The MOVE underscores growing technological tensions between Washington and rival powers.
